Ever Tried Obedience? Update - Maybe the last

~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~

If we cannot get back to some kind of normality, it might be. It has not been the best of year's, and some members may know of the attack on my dogs, by a Rottweiler, in March 2002. The Police traced the handler, who admitted the attack by his dog, but was unconcerned over the incident. The case went to court, where it was decided that there was no case under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The result is of little consequence, the damage is done. The attack has had a devastating effect on both my dogs and had they not been on leads, both would have died that day. Robbie's heart murmur has worsened and, although he is fine in himself, I am anxious he has no more frights. But it was Angus, who took the full physical attack from the Rottweiler, which bit through his ear and shook him like a rat. Now my Angus is terrified and screams at full volume, when we are out. He is drawing attention to himself and dogs are interested. I am terrified a dog is either going to kill him, or Angus will feel threatened by the attention and bite in fear. I have tried everything, with no success, and have just this day, asked my vet for help. If any member has any ideas that may help Angus to keep his brain in his head, I would be glad to hear. If I can calm him down and get him focused and listening to me, we will have a chance to put our fears behind us and return to normal life.

On a happier note, the dogs and I travelled a over 1000 miles round trip and sleeping in the car, to run the South Eastern Counties Toy Dog Society Obedience Show, held for the first time at Montem Leisure Centre, Slough, Berks. With no chance now, after the attack, to work either Robbie (Leebren Rob Roy) or Angus in competition, I am so very proud to say that my Angus (Cavallino Jaeger) passed his Silver Good Citizen Dog Scheme with Sue Evans, from The Kennel Club, as Examiner.

I have said it before, my 'boys' are not show Cavaliers, nor is their standard particularly high in obedience competition. But we do not live for the 'ring', that is for fun and a day out; we live at home, together and I am so very proud of them both.

P.S. Angus is still helping me with several domestic chores, including changing my bed, bless him, and one thing is certain,if we never manage to do anything more, he can be assured of a home job for life.
